Gift idea: Books
Makes a good gift for: Anyone
Whether the recipient is old enough to read or not, books can make a great gift for anyone - as long as you get the right person the right gift. I usually get someone a book that I have already read and think they will like, or a book by an author I know they like. So, without further ado, here are a couple novels I read and enjoyed this year that I think other readers would like.
I have provided links to these books on Amazon.com, but they should be readily available in your local bookstore (assuming Amazon.com has not killed your local bookstore). Going to a local bookstore (or Target or the like) is a great place to browse through some books - especially children's' books.
This book is a really great non-fiction story of President James Madison's slave, and his experience living on the plantation and in the White House:
This fictional story tells the story of The Tiger's Wife - I think it will appeal to men, women and teens alike.
This fictional story is told from the perspective of one orphaned twin brother who was raised in and around an Ethiopian hospital. A traveler or medical buff would enjoy this story, or just someone who likes a good story with a bit of mystery.
It's A Wonderful Life was based on this wonderful Christmas novella. What a great book to buy for a child, young adult or a family.

Gift idea: Initial mugs
Makes a good gift for: Anyone
For my birthday a couple years ago I got an “S” initial mug. I love it – its big and obviously “my mug” – except Jonathon kept swiping it as a coffee mug (he drinks lots of coffee). So I had to get him his own “J” initial mug. Now we have a cute matching pair. The mugs we have are from West Elm, but they don’t carry them anymore (at least not on-line) but there are lots of other initial mugs out there:
Anthropologie Monogrammed Mug - $6.00
Target Monogram Mug - $15.99
Gift idea: monthly club subscription
Makes a good gift for: Anyone - seriously!
A monthly club is a great gift to give a person who has everything, or the beer/wine/chocolate (or whatever else) enthusiast! With most of these clubs you can sign someone up for one month, a whole year, or anywhere in between. Who does not love getting presents in the mail? The certificate or print-out confirming the subscription could also be folded up and put in a
Twelve Days of Christmas Gift Box!
If there is someone on your list who has a certain interest, there just might be a monthly club subscription out there that caters just to that interest. Here are some of the more mainstream clubs I have found, but if you know someone who loves hot-sauce, there is a club for that too!
Gift idea: Throw blanket
Makes a good gift for: Mom, dad, grandma or grandpa, anyone
who likes to decorate and/or cuddle up under a nice blanket.
This blanket from West Elm comes in a bunch of colors, and at $29.00, would make a great gift for multiple people on your Christmas list:
West Elm Favorite Throw - 29.00
For the young, or the young at heart, these poufy blankets from Garnet Hill comes in three festive patterns - I love the woody with the Christmas tree on top:
Printed Poufy Throw - $78.00
For a very classic look, this washable wool plaid throw blanket from L.L. Bean really screams classic Christmas, especially in the red and green plaid (but it comes in other colors of plaid too). This blanket reminds me of cuddling up on my Grampa's easy chair under his scratchy wool blanket - but this one comes without the scratch:
L.L. Bean's Washable Wool Throw, Plaid - $89.00
Gift idea: Stationery
Makes a good gift for: Anyone who can write!
I love nice stationery. I have a whole box full. Perhaps it
is because my mom engrained in me the good habit of writing thank you notes. I
seriously cannot really enjoy a gift until the thank you note is in the mail.
Anyway, having nice stationery makes sending a note, whether it be a thank you
or just a nice note, more fun. Kids and adults, men and women, there is
stationery for everyone out there, you just have to look. Here are some cute
sets I found:
Personalized with Initials:
Paper Source Caslon Monogram A2 Stationery - 20 cards and envelopes for $32.70
Personalized nautical theme:
Paper Source Anchor A2 Stationery - 20 cards and envelopes for $32.70
Personalized with family dog and name:
Etsy Black Lab Personalized Stationery - 10 cards and envelopes for $15.00
A little feminine touch with lace and personalized:
You could even have some custom postage stamps made by zazzle, and those stamps would easily fit in a Twelve Days of Christmas Gift Box!
